Introduction to Layers
What are Layers?
Layers allow us to run experiments, with each layer representing all of your users. You can run multiple experiments on a single layer If there is a traffic hunger. On one layer, users can be part of a maximum of one experiment.
How to Use it?
ABC provides users with two ways to create experiments.
- To begin an experiment, all you need to do is create it, and ABC will assign a layer to the experiment automatically.
Every experiment created will be mounted on a default layer that includes all online users. To modify the scope of the experiment, you can edit the traffic allocation.
Setting up an experiment is quick and easy, even for non-engineers.
2 To enable the validation of more product features and ideas, traffic hunger issues may arise. ABC supports creating experiments on an existing layer. You can reuse this layer to create multiple experiments, and a user will only participate in one. Once you create a layer, you can manage it in the layer management module, and also see the details of the experiments mounted under this layer.
It's important to note that some parameters are not independent and not all values that we may want to test for a parameter work with the values for another parameter. For example, having pink text color on a pink background is not a good combination. In a Layer, parameters exist at the Layer level and can be shared across experiments. Each layer can only modify the associated parameters, and the same parameter cannot be associated with multiple layers.
Layers:
Click the Experiments button on the left navigation bar and you can see the entrance of layers
Create New Layer:
You can create new layer through “advanced” section when you are creating a new experiment. Also, you can create it on the Layers page
Type in layer's name to create a new layer, layer's name should be unique. Layer's name is not allowed to change once created.
Layer List:
You can click on the layer's name and see the details: Details of layers:
- Name:unavailable to edit
- Description:avaliable to change, move the mouse out of the edit box and click on the blank space to complete the update
- Owner:avaliable to change
- This section shows the allocated traffic of this layer
- This section shows details of parameter, also you can manage it including: create, edit and delete
- You can create new layer through “advanced” section when you are creating a new experiment, unavaliable to change.
Parameters:
1. Create New Parameter
Click on "Create New Parameter", and add default parameter for this layer: Notes: Parameter is globally unique, if the parameter name you typed has been used the warning 'Duplicate parameter name, occupied by xxxx' appears, you can click on ‘xxxx’ and jump to the experiment which is using this parameter.
2. Edit Parameter
You can see the information of this layer in the pop-up, including: Name, related experiments, type, and default value. You are not allowed to change parameter type if the parameter is being used by experiment(s) at this moment.
3. Delete Parameter
If you want to delete layer's parameter, click the "Delete" button on the right. Notes: it is not allowed to delete the parameter if it is being used by any experiment at the moment.
